Forget March, April was the coolest month (especially at MUDC). Dance camp being one of the main highlights and what can you expect when you put a bunch of crazy dancing folks at a camp? A weekend filled with awesomeness, of course. Our excellent committees from both Melbourne and Monash worked together to make sure everything was smooth sailing. As a way of getting to know everyone better, it started off with a couple of games on Friday evening. Of course, nothing brings people closer than when they’re laughing at themselves and being competitive. This was then followed by the social dancing, after which some retired and the rest all got to know each other in a more informal setting. Truth or dare anyone? Saturday was filled with (what else?) more dancing. You’d think that after three dance classes during the day that people would be exhausted but that didn’t stop anyone from putting on their wigs, glitter and ‘M’ themed outfits for the Saturday night social. Many thanks to Ashlea (Melbourne) and Steph (Monash) for ensuring things ran well and of course Sue Lyn Lim for organizing the camp for us this year. We can only hope for an exciting camp next year as well. A huge thanks to everyone involved!
The other highlight of April was the Showcase night. From Street Latin to Swing and everything else in between, every style put their best foot forward. Everyone was impressed with the many talented people of MUDC, judging by the applause. Biggest thanks go to our sponsors, D'Soul, and congratulations to Harris and Mei , who won the gift voucher for dance shoes from D'Soul! For the first showcase-type event that MUDC has ever presented, it went off without a hitch. Special thanks to Yi Ping Leong, Jun Takahashi and Vicky La, as well as the rest of committee for organizing this amazing night, and all the dancers who were brave enough to perform for us.
Medals Night: 22nd May
For all MUDC styles except Swing.
With exams fast approaching, we're slowing things down a bit. Now, now, this is for your own good. But those routines that you've worked at so hard this semester shall not go to waste! What better way to show off your dancing skills and brush up on all you’ve been working at this semester than by taking part in our semesterly medal nights? There is no pressure as it is not compulsory to take medals to go to higher levels, but they are something that you can add to your CV (and display somewhere with pride). To sign up, just get a committee member to put your name on the list. Females can dance with the teacher and males must find a partner in class. We can match you up if the need be. The fee for the medals is:
Bronze: $21
Silver: $24
Gold: $27
Gold Bar: $29
You can sign up before paying, but payments must be in before the night! Feel free to dress up if you wish, but there is no dress code for the night. The medals will be presented at the Dinner Dance next semester.
Dinner Dance: 25th September
September still seems like miles away but it doesn’t mean that you can’t mark your calendars for the dinner dance next semester! Even if you’re not attending classes, the dinner dance will give you the chance to really get to know all the people who share the same passion as you. The theme this year is *champagne*, so bring out that sparkly top and something in gold/silver for some bubbly fun. This is our grand and formal event for the year, with lots of special showcases and the awarding of medals. The swapping of partners will occur as a simple routine will be taught as usual as well as heaps of social dancing to satisfy your dancing appetite. So you get, a 3 course meal, great company, and heaps of dancing. What more could you want? So keep that date clear for your own good, or you’ll regret it later on. Tickets go on sale at the beginning of semester 2.
